General
Below you will find good practices for the validation of identity documents.
In order to verify the identity of a signatory, a valid identity document (European national identity
card, European passport, French residence permit, containing an optical track) must be provided.
Drivers' licences are not accepted.
The identity document must be scanned or photographed in its entirety, in colour, and as clearly as
possible. It must be sent in PNG, JPG or PDF format (the front and back of an ID document must not
be on the same page).
Each side of the identity card, residence permit or passport must be well framed, i.e. there must be
little or no border around it (a front or back in the middle of a blank page will not be recognised).
Black and white copies or/and blurred ID will be systematically refused. Moreover, if the document is
truncated or if elements of the document are hidden, it will be impossible to validate the identity.
Photographs or scans of photocopies are also refused.
Input
The e-mail address must be entered in lower case.
When entering data, the transmission of identification information must be as precise as possible:
- the spelling of the declared surnames and first names must be STRICTLY identical between the file
and the identity document (especially compound surnames/first names); - in the case of a compound surname/first name, the two surnames/first names may be separated by a space or a dash;
- in the case of several first names, they must be separated by a comma;
- in the case of a married name, we recommend that only the maiden name appears (the one that
appears in the optical track)
Validation procedures and deadline
The process is divided into two parts.
The first part is a fully automated process that validates customer identity documents. In order for this
machine to be able to validate the document correctly, the following nomenclature must be respected.
If you are sending us a passport, we need the page containing the passport photo and the civil status
information (page 2), the page with the signature is not necessary.
If it is an identity card or a residence permit, we need both pages, the first one being the front and the
second the back.
No other information should appear on these pages (no visible stamps, watermarks or annotations).
These pages must not be truncated or blurred…
If the Universign automaton is unable to validate the document automatically, the application is validated
manually. Therefore, a Universign validation operator must manually analyse the ID document. This
manual validation process can take several hours, up to 24 working hours (excluding weekends and public holidays)
Once a status has been assigned to your application (valid or invalid) it is absolutely impossible for us (for
security reasons that you will understand) to change this status. In the event of invalidity, a new
application must be submitted.
